Chin Chin is a popular fried snack in west Africa . It is fried dough, made mainly from either wheat or cassava flour, sweetened with sugar and flavored with nutmeg, vanilla or any other flavor of choice.

Chin Chin is a common snack served at parties and celebrations. It is also prepared during festive seasons like the Eids, Christmas,New year,Easter amongst others.
There is no Christmas without chin chin my home 😀. Now that I have made the introductions let’s go the recipe . This recipe is rich in taste as no water was added .It also has a twist to it as I added coconut flakes.
RECIPE..
1.5 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
Salt to taste
1 tbsp Cooking oil
1 egg
1/3cup liquid milk
Nutmeg and vanilla for flavor
1/3 cup Coconut flakes optional
Cooking oil for frying.
INSTRUCTIONS;
1.In a clean bowl. Break in egg, add sugar, pinch of salt, one table spoon cooking oil, and flavors (I used nutmeg and vanilla), 1/3cup of milk, then whisk.

2. Sieve in 1/2cup of flour and 1 tablespoon baking powder into mix. *If you are using a hand mixer this is the point you change your whisks pins to a kneading pin.

If you are not using a hand mixer I recommend a spatula for this .

3.Stir in flour and baking powder . Add in one cup of flour and a dough should form . If your dough doesn’t form, you can add in more flour till you obtain dough.
4.Add coconut flakes to dough and knead into ball.

CUTTING/SHAPING
5.This is the final stage before frying, and is done in many different ways. The most common method is spreading the dough on a board or flat surface, then slicing it into long lines before cutting into tiny cubes.

FRYING..
This is the final stage .
6.Make sure your cooking oil is mildly heated before you start frying . Add cubes into pan and stir at intervals .Fry until golden brown .

7.Allow it to air for some minutes before eating. If you plan to store them, I advise to let it air a bit longer . The more it airs, the harder it gets .
